Junior Golf 

The spring time instructional camp is designed for beginner or experienced junior golfers, ages from 7 to 15. The program is designed to teach the golf swing, course management and, most importantly, golf etiquette and the rules of the game.
The program is available to University City residents and surrounding communities.

(Class size is limited to the first 6 Jr. Golf paid registrations)

  • A major factor in student golfing success is access to appropriate equipment.
    • At minimum, each student should have and bring the following equipment:
      • A driver or 3-wood (or possibly a 5-wood).
      • A mid-iron (preferably a 6- or 7-iron).
      • A short-iron (preferably a 9-iron or a pitching wedge).
      • A putter.
      • At least 3 golf balls; a golf glove (if desired); a ball mark and ball mark repair tool; and an assortment of tees.
  • Ruth Park’s PGA professional, Doug Castellari, has volunteered to assist students with one club-fitting session, free of charge.  New grips will be available for /grip.
    • NOTE:  Ruth Park Golf Course cannot be responsible for supplying clubs to students!
    • However, some clubs may be available for discounted rental or purchase prices.  Please contact Doug Castellari at the Pro Shop for additional information.
  • Water and/or lemonade will be available during all driving range sessions.
  • Certificates for completion of program will be awarded at end of classes.

What ages can participate in the Summer Junior Golf Program?
The spring camp will be more advanced and more 1 on 1 instruction. Summer golf program is for any junior golfer interested in taking up the game of golf ages 7 to 16. (Sorry but juniors must be 7 or older no exceptions) It is open to kids in the University City area and surrounding communities. We encourage kids ages 14 and up to work on a 1 on 1 basis with the PGA professional.

What are the days and times of the Summer Junior Golf Program?
The spring program will meet Saturday’s in April 11th - 18th - 25th from 9:00am to 10:00pm.
The summer golf program for juniors will take place every Tuesday evening starting
Dates to be determined.
The times are "Wee Wedges" ages 7 to 10 years of age 4:30 pm to 5:30
The "Putters" ages 11 to 16 years of age at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
All classes will last one hour.

Where will the instructional program take place?
All instruction for the spring and summer program will be held at the driving range and short game area which is located west of the club house. There will be parking on the golf course side of the street and seating on wall and benches for parents if they wish to attend. The times for scheduled on course playing sessions the camp will meet at the golf shop for that class. Parents will be notified at least one week in advance of the class by group announcement and email.

What is the ratio of instructor per student?
All instruction will be given by instructors of Ruth Park Golf Course. We have a 7:1 to ratio to make sure that your junior golfer has an understanding of the golf swing and rules of golf as well as the safety of your child. As the class fills up we will have additional instructors on hand to ensure the ratio. We take pride in providing a good learning experience and we hold our students to high standards and expect them to lean and follow all rules. We ask the parents to participate as well.

Where can we find any junior golf schedules and information?
All information pertaining to the junior golf camps and schedules are posted after March 1st on the
golf website at www.ruthpartkgolf.org or a copy can be picked up at the golf shop. You can call the golf shop at 314-727-4800 for more information.

What is the cost of the junior golf program?
The cost of the spring program is and the summer program is TBD which includes instruction by the PGA professional and staff, tee gift, all rules books and instructional aids. We will have discounts for clubs that are purchased through the golf course and discounts for golf and range balls for when class is not in session. Payments can be made through mail with check or by cash or credit card at the golf shop. The information sheet must be accompanied with payment. All checks are to made out to the city of University City and have a valid address and phone number on the check.

How do you handle weather cancellations?
Cancellations for camp will be made on forecasts that day. If the range or short game area is unavailable dues to weather conditions, we will notify everyone via email no later than 1 hour before the beginning of class. You may call the golf shop at that time 314-727-4800 as well. Any rescheduling of camps will be that following Sunday, August 16th and or Sunday, August 23rd at 1:00 pm.
